Artist Statement on Project: Faux Film Posters

Faux Film Posters

For many years, the majority of my work was making straight color photographs documenting sleazy subjects of distraction, abandon and yearning; places and people that appear fictional, but are real. Subjects include commercialized places of leisure; motels, bars, restaurants, hot dog stands, Las Vegas, Elvis Impersonators. The photographs have saturated, lurid colors, yet feel lonely and desperate.

As I have embraced the digital age, I am  using some of these photographs as settings for implied narratives in the form of fake movie posters. These “posters” enable me to combine many of my interests, such as mysteries, film noir, writing, humor, typography and graphic design with photography while poking fun at our hypocritical culture of greed, violence, mystery and deception.
